From wetland walks in the Fraser Valley to social meetups in Vancouver and Victoria, our BC chapter gets capybara lovers and wetland advocates together a few times a season — no membership required, just curiosity.
Everyone's welcome, whether you've been a member for years or you just want to see what the fuss is about. RSVPs help us plan snacks and carpools, but drop-ins are fine too.
Trout Lake Community Centre · Vancouver, BC
Our regular casual meetup for the Vancouver chapter — swap sightings and stories, hear a short update from the field team, and help plan the next round of local events over snacks.
A look back at what the BC chapter has been up to. Photos and full recaps go out in our monthly email after each event.
Robert Lake Migratory Bird Sanctuary · Kelowna, BC
Our first Interior BC event brought together local naturalists and Commons members for a morning survey walk, with our field research director sharing how wetland engineering research done on capybara habitats abroad is shaping restoration thinking here at home.
VanDusen Botanical Garden · Vancouver, BC
Our biggest turnout yet. We marked World Capybara Day with a picnic, a short talk from our executive director on the year ahead, and a table where new members signed up to join the Vancouver chapter's volunteer list.
Nanaimo River Estuary · Nanaimo, BC
A wet, muddy, thoroughly worthwhile morning clearing debris from the estuary with a handful of local volunteers, in partnership with a regional streamkeepers group. Modest turnout, but it planted the seed for the Victoria chapter launching this fall.
If there's no chapter near you yet in BC, we'll help you start one — venue tips, a small budget for snacks, and an intro to members in your area.
